Purpose of the role

The Junior School Teacher is responsible for creating a stimulating, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students

in the Junior School (Prep–Year 6). The role focuses on fostering academic growth, social and emotional development,

creativity, and curiosity while aligning teaching practice with the College’s vision, values, and curriculum frameworks.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned to the Curriculum

• Differentiate teaching to cater for the diverse learning needs, strengths, and interests of students

• Integrate literacy, numeracy, inquiry-based learning, and digital technologies into daily practice

• Create opportunities for creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving in learning experiences

• Monitor and report on student progress through formal and informal assessment, providing regular feedback to

students and parents

Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

Foster a positive, respectful, and safe classroom environment that promotes student wellbeing

Actively support students in developing social-emotional skills, resilience, and self-confidence

Establish strong, supportive relationships with students and families to enhance learning and wellbeing outcomes

Professional Practice

Collaborate with colleagues to design integrated curriculum programs and co-curricular activities

Participate actively in staff meetings, professional learning, and whole-school initiatives

Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and wellbeing matters

Uphold the College’s policies, values, and child safety standards

Co-curricular and Community Engagement

Contribute to the co-curricular life of the College (sport, arts, clubs, outdoor education, etc.)

Participate in excursions, camps, and school community events

Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with parents and the wider school community

Selection Criteria

Experience

Preparing and delivering effective teaching and learning programs within the frameworks in place, in Junior School

Utilising a range of pedagogical approaches to meet individual needs and engage students, including the use of digital

technologies

Providing pastoral and academic care of students within and beyond the classroom

Providing leadership in, and demonstrate a positive attitude of encouragement and participation for all students in co-

curricular activities

Keeping abreast of new advances and curriculum development in teaching and learning areas as well as current

developments in educational thinking

Evidence of regular involvement in professional learning

Involvement in, or contributions to, the school community beyond the classroom

Skills and attributes

Understanding of how students learn, and knowledge of curriculum and programs that enhance that learning

Demonstrated innovative and creative teaching and learning practices and skills

Ability to fulfil all requirements relating to assessment and its documentation as set out by the College, Junior School,

Victorian Curriculum, and the Australian Curriculum

Ability to monitor, evaluate, and report on evidence of student learning within the relevant curriculum area and provide

regular feedback to students

Capacity to accommodate different student learning styles and abilities

Foster a supportive classroom climate which enhances student learning, promotes excellence, and acknowledges the

needs of students to be both challenged and supported

Demonstrate thorough processes for preparation, planning and recording of the teaching and learning program

Ability to develop constructive relationships with students which engender positive attitudes to learning

High level communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and staff

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Knowledge of child safe practices, including reporting requirements

Ability to assess and evaluate student learning

Ability to always maintain professional confidentiality and discretion

Qualifications and Employer Requirements

Appropriate qualifications for teaching in Victoria

Clearance to work with children - registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)

Entitled to live and work in Australia

A commitment and capacity to contribute to the College’s co-curricular program

Completion of Protecting Children – Mandatory Reporting and Other Obligations (training provided by DoE Victoria)

within our care, including promoting physical, emotional and cultural safety. All staff are responsible for reporting information

about suspected child abuse. All staff share in the responsibility for the prevention and detection of child abuse and promptly

raise any issues or concerns about a child’s safety. All staff are required to follow the School’s Child Safe policies and Child Safety

Code of Conduct.

ELTHAM College takes a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse and is fully committed to ensuring that its strategies,

policies, procedures, and practices meet all Child Safe Standards as specified in Ministerial Order No. 1359 (2022). All applicants
