Job Description
We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Junior Textile Designer who will play a crucial role in bringing innovative designs to life. Roles & Responsibilities:
• Developing new design concepts; experimenting with colours, fabric and texture
• Good sense of colours and perspective
• Print development and placement on actual patterns of the garments
• Software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs to develop a range of designs
• Report to the design team and partner on projects from concept to post-production
• Collaborating with team members to select seasonal themes, make edits to line and create new concepts
• Extensive market research and presenting story, mood and colour boards and samples
• Liaising with clients and technical, marketing and buying staff to plan and develop designs
• Color reduction of prints to cater to seasonal palette, watercolours and other hand worked motifs
• Assist in sourcing fabrics and other materials at trade fairs, markets and antique shops
• Keeping up to date and spotting fashion trends in fabric design by reading forecasts in trade magazines and using internet resources
Preferred Skills:
• 1+ years of experience in the fashion design industry
• A degree in one of the following areas: Art and Design/Fashion/Knitwear/Surface design/Textiles
• Design skills and the ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) packages
• Must have knowledge of color reduction of prints to cater to seasonal palette, watercolors and other hand worked motifs
• Good eye for color, texture, fabrics and patterns
• Excellent attention to detail
• An interest in fashion and textiles, and an understanding of trends and materials
• Understanding and experience of using different textile processes and techniques
• Ability to work to deadlines and a budget
