Job Description
The role aims to support the delivery of Alternative Education to help tauira gain appropriate literacy, numeracy and life skills to enable them to pathway back into secondary school, further education, or employment.
Role details:
Title: Kaiako- Taikākā (Alternative Education)
Role: Permanent – Full Time
Location: Cambridge or Te Awamutu
Hours: 37.5
Days: Monday – Friday
As Kaiako - Taikākā (Alternative Education), you will:
Plan lessons and manage day-to-day delivery of the Alternative Education programme.
Promote a tauira-centric, collaborative and supportive learning environment
Enhance all tauira learning experiences by delivering curriculum using engaging content, methods, tools, and resources
Work together with schools to accept referrals
Facilitate Collaborative Action Plans with tauira, whānau, schools, and relevant support agencies
Provide professional support to tauira to enable access to: Learning and skills acquisition, attendance and engagement, career guidance, disability health or social services support
Foster, maintain and display appropriate cultural awareness and connections
Establish and maintain strong and meaningful professional relationships with schools, education providers, employers, iwi and hapu
Support the transportation of rangatahi to and from their course
About you:
We are looking for someone who has the following:
Diploma Level 5 related to Education, Social Work, Youth Work or related field, or equivalent experience
Certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching Level 5 (or be willing to work towards gaining this certificate with our support)
Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 5, or equivalent experience
Unit Standards 4098, 11281, 18203, or in the process of working towards them
2 years + experience teaching youth (12 – 17-year-olds) or working in Alternative Education, Social Work or related role
Experience working with Education Act, Policies and Procedures
Full New Zealand Driver’s License
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
