Kaimanaaki – Attendance Services
Nurture Tamariki | Support Whānau | Empower Engagement
We are seeking an energetic and resilient Kaimanaaki to join our Attendance Services team based in Tāmaki. This is a full-time role focused on supporting chronically absent and non-enrolled tamariki and taiohi to re-engage in education through personalised, whānau-centred approaches.
About Us
The Anglican Trust for Women & Children (ATWC) is a multi-disciplinary social services organisation with over 160 years of service to the community. Based in Ōtāhuhu, we have long-standing relationships with schools across Tāmaki Makaurau and remain committed to serving whānau for the long haul.
Our values of Whanaungatanga, Aroha, Kaitiakitanga, Māiatanga, and Tumanako guide every interaction and uphold our mission… to support whānau to nurture their tamariki and give them a happy, healthy, and secure future.
About the Role
As a Kaimanaaki, you will play a vital role in supporting schools and whānau to help students who are not attending or not enrolled to re-engage in education. Each day, you will work closely with tamariki, taiohi, their families, schools, and connected agencies to create and monitor individualised “back to school” plans that encourage positive and sustainable attendance.
Your work will include home visits, building high-trust relationships, identifying barriers to attendance, and coordinating holistic supports that enable students to return to education. You will support primary through to secondary-aged students across kura and schools in the Glendowie, Selwyn, and Tāmaki areas.
This role is based at ATWC’s Tāmaki office, central to our contracted schools, ensuring visibility, collaboration, and easy access for the community you will serve.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will need to:
Qualifications
A Level 4 or higher NZQA-recognised qualification in social services, education, youth work, community development, or a related field (preferred but not essential)
A current full New Zealand driver’s licence
Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
Skills and Experience
Proven experience engaging effectively with tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau in community or education settings
Understanding of the education system and the factors influencing attendance and engagement
Ability to identify barriers to school attendance and implement strengths-based, practical interventions
Desired Attributes
Empathy, a non-judgemental approach, and confidence engaging with diverse communities
Cultural competence and respect for Māori values, language, and protocols
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy caseload
Confidence working independently while also contributing positively to a team
Resilience, flexibility, sound judgement, and professionalism

Ongoing professional development opportunities
All required work tools including mobile phone, laptop, vehicle access, training and induction
Up to 15 days of additional gifted leave (per annum)
Salary range of $58,000 … $62,000 depending on qualifications and experience
