Why IFYS (Urban Angels)?
Urban Angels Community Kitchen is a platform for bringing the community together, creating and distributing a ready stock of nutritious frozen meals for people who need support in this way.
It was developed from understanding the challenges faced where, as a result of illness, trauma or other significant difficulty, it becomes an ordeal to arrange a nutritious, balanced meal. As many who have experienced crisis can attest, the simple gift of a meal at difficult times can not only relieve the stress of the moment but also lift the spirits of those in need
The opportunity
Urban Angels are seeking a permanent Kitchen Hand to join the team situated at the IFYS Kawana Hub Specialist Homeless Service.
The Kawana Hub Specialist Homeless Service is a 68-bed short term emergency housing solution, available to residents of the Sunshine Coast that are experiencing homelessness.
The Kitchen Hand will support the provision of three meals a day, ensuring hygiene, health and safety standards are met, and providing friendly and non-judgmental service to all residents of the program. This role is part of a team of rostered Kitchen Support staff, working alongside a chef, other IFYS staff and volunteers.
What’s on offer?
Permanent part-time employment, min 24 hours per week
$25.80 per hour ($50,+85 per annum pro rata) + applicable penalty rates for day and time of shift

Sample Roster
Week 1
Monday 11:30am to 8:00 pm
Tuesday 11:30am to 8:00pm
Sunday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm (alternate weeks, with potential for 1 weekend off a month)
Week 2
Monday 11:30am to 8:00 pm
Tuesday 11:30am to 8:00pm
Saturday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm (alternate weeks)
Please note applicants must have availability to fulfil rostered evening and weekend hours with additional days as agreed to cover team members’ leave periods. Due to the casual nature of this role, minimum or set hours cannot be guaranteed.
Key requirements:
Daily operations of the kitchen including customer service, food preparation, restocking and receiving delivered goods, accurate administration
Assist chef of the day in food preparations
Support residents to access refreshments and foods during the day
Work alongside volunteers in the delivery of catering service to residents
Train and supervise volunteers involved in the kitchen
Cleaning and sanitising dining area and kitchen throughout the day
Assist with ensuring that the food served and the kitchen meets all legislated hygiene and health and safety requirements
To be successful in this role you will possess:
A resilient and can-do nature
A positive and non-judgemental manner interacting with people from all walks of life
Experience in hospitality, customer service and/or community services highly regarded
Knowledge of food safety standards
Willingness to work agreed rostered hours. Flexibility to accept changes in rostered hours highly regarded
Strong interpersonal and administrative skills
Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:
Valid Queensland Driver’s License with no restrictions, and own reliable transport
QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
Licensed Care Service Suitability Check (LCS2)
National Criminal History Check (a new check will be conducted through IFYS systems)
Food Safe Handling Certificate
