Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Kitchen Helper plays a crucial role in ensuring that nutritious meals are prepared and served in compliance with applicable food service and safety regulations. This helps to ensure that the health and well-being of our clients are maintained while also promoting healthy eating habits.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Food Service

Assist with preparation for daily meals and snacks, portions, and presents meals and snacks to be served to residents, visitors, and at special events.

Clean and sanitize dishes and cookware after each meal.

Assist with menu preparation.

Assist with storage of leftovers.

Checks and records the temperatures of a walk-in and a reach-in refrigerator and a freezer twice daily.

Prepares production estimations and quantity requirements, such as defrosting meat, and requisitions for supplies from the storeroom according to menu requirements.

Ensures that workstations are cleaned and sanitized daily.

Develop a positive working relationship with co-workers, residents, superiors, volunteers and visitors.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Administration Responsibilities

Attend staff team meetings as required.

Assist with maintaining statistical records for the program and Salvation Army.

Assist in developing menus in accordance with policy and procedure and core standards.

Organizational Responsibilities

The incumbent will adhere to standards of The Salvation Army Food Services safety practices, meal planning and meal service as well as the Regional Municipality of York’s Core Standards.

Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in service training

Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook

Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of Belinda’s Place.

Read and follow the Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Plan.

Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibility:

Reporting directly to dietary and environmental coordinator

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is an onsite role, working both inside and on the grounds of Belinda’s Place

8 week temporary employment , 30 hrs/week

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

Completed High School Diploma and working towards post-secondary education

Must be able to lift more than 20 pounds.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and equity.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Must have good interpersonal/time management skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed towards High School Diploma

One year of prior related experience preferred

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.01 with a maximum of $24.01.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
