About the role:

At BHI we celebrate diversity and are dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace that honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Koorie SSO to join our team.

The Koorie Student Support Officer provides a range of welfare monitoring and intervention support to ensure the success of BHI Indigenous students to commence, continue and complete training.

You will be working closely to support stakeholders including teachers, students, and other team members to achieve outcomes across educational excellence and retention and support of Indigenous students. The position connects BHI to the training and employment needs of Aboriginal individuals, groups and communities.

The position reports to the Koorie Liaison Officer and works collaboratively with teachers and managers at all levels to engage, retain, and build the success of Indigenous students. This position works to deliver highly-valued support strategies to improve student retention and success and ensure an excellent student experience for students of the Institute. The position works closely with other members of the Student Life team to achieve its operational plan.

Student Life is an innovative unit of BHI which supports the delivery of education and training to students through a diverse set of services, programs, resources and activities designed to help students make the most of their time at BHI and succeed with their study and life goals. Some of the carefully planned services, target the needs of all students while others target a particular group of students including youth, students with disabilities, International students and Indigenous students.

We are looking to fill multiple roles both full-time and part-time. Salary is level PACCT 4 $66,016 per annum plus superannuation.

About You:

This is a special measures role and only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are eligible to apply, as per the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. The successful candidate must have:

A relevant post secondary qualification in education, program delivery, business, community, Youth Work, Welfare, Counselling, or equivalent.
Relevant experience working with Aboriginal people and communities.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Koorie culture and history, with the ability to proactively contribute to building Indigenous cultural safety and respect within BHIG for staff, students and visitors
Ability to build relationships with Indigenous students, internal and external stakeholders which assist to create positive educational pathways for Indigenous students
Capacity to work well under pressure with the ability to prioritise and meet reporting and project deadlines in the context of good communication skills and sound record keeping
Develop clearly articulated student pathways through providing tailored experiences for students that includes individualised support and study plan options. Ability to work to an action plan and flexibly adapt when appropriate
Demonstrated experience in working to provide supports to Indigenous students or community.
Ability to proactively promote and implement a range of student or client support strategies in a complex organisational context.
Ability to meet legal, professional and policy requirements involved in the delivery of
