Are you looking to take the next step in your Materials Testing career? We are looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our brand new Barnsley facility. This is a rare opportunity to take on supervisory responsibility while playing a key role in establishing and growing a new laboratory. We are Igne Group Limited, a synergetic amalgamation of six companies, renowned within our respective fields, with over 350 years of combined experience. A one-stop-shop for pre- and post-construction services. Igne’s six service categories are: ground investigation, testing, unexploded ordnance, drilling specialists, geothermal and geo-environmental.

Key Responsibilities
• Preparation and testing of samples including concrete, soils, aggregates and bituminous mixtures.
• Completion and checking of testing worksheets and accurate recording of data.
• Correct identification, marking, registration, and storage of samples.
• Ensuring all laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated and safe for use.
• Supervising, mentoring and supporting Trainee Technicians to develop their skills.
• Undertaking other duties as required to support the lab and wider business.
Person Specification
• Proven experience in laboratory testing of concrete, soils, aggregates & bituminous mixtures
• Strong knowledge of UKAS accredited laboratory practices.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and motivate others.
• High customer service ethic, with a passion for meeting and exceeding expectations.
• Commitment to QHSE protocols and safe working practices.

• Salary on offer is circa £30,000 per annum plus overtime and benefits

Job description
A full time onsite technician position to work in the Cardiovascular Pathology Unit in St George’s Medical School. The group consists of two doctors, research fellows, three technicians and an administrator. This unit is funded by a UK Charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young which deals with sudden young deaths in UK. The person must have a degree in Biomedical Science or relevant Laboratory experience, excellent attention to detail as well as ability to use excel and database entry. General laboratory technical skills and interpersonal skills are required as well as good communication skills to deal with bereaved families and coroner’s officers.
Key attributes of the successful applicant (no more than 50 words) include:
• Successful track record in histology laboratory techniques
• High attention to detail including when under pressure is essential
• Passion for delivering a great service
• High level of prioritisation and organisation to manage a high volume of work and priorities effectively
• Strong organisational, time-management and communication skills
• Enthusiasm and personal initiative to solve problems, and ability to work unsupervised
• Ability to train others once fully trained
