Job description
We’re hiring a Junior Lab & Production Technician to join a growing team based in central London. You’ll play a key role in supporting R&D, quality control, and production testing of innovative textiles - perfect for someone who enjoys working practically in a lab environment and thrives on problem-solving.
About the Role
You’ll work across product development and production, helping to ensure textile materials are tested, validated, and ready for real-world applications. From hands-on testing and data analysis to maintaining lab equipment and supporting technical documentation, this role blends practical lab work with collaboration across design and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform physical and chemical testing of textiles and materials using standard and advanced techniques
• Inspect and assess textile quality, identify issues, and ensure consistent standards are met
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab and testing equipment
• Collaborate with R&D and design teams to develop and evaluate materials
• Record data, write lab reports, and contribute to technical documentation
• Manage lab consumables, stock levels, and sample libraries
What You’ll Need
• A degree in Textiles, Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Colour Science, or a related field
• Practical experience in textile/materials testing and quality control (desirable)
• Familiarity with both physical and chemical testing methods (e.g. tensile strength, water vapour transmission, spectroscopy)
• Excellent time management and multitasking skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a lab setting
• Clear communicator, with good written skills and a collaborative mindset
Desirable Extras (Not Essential)
• Experience working with performance or technical textiles
• Knowledge of testing tools like WVTR, hydrostatic head testers, or colour measurement instruments
• Exposure to industrial standards (ISO, ASTM, AATCC)
• Previous lab-based R&D or prototyping experience
Salary & Benefits:
• Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 depending on experience

The successful candidate will be working within the PerkinElmer Technical Lab Services (TLS) division and will be placed within a team at the customer site who have a focus on delivering site wide media and reagent services supporting innovative and life-changing research and development activities.

Job Responsibilities
• Prepare media and reagents to support site-wide research and development teams.
• Maintain laboratory stocks, including consumables and solvents.
• Deliver media and reagents to points of use, ensuring stock levels are maintained at the agreed volume and number.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment while ensuring health, safety, and compliance standards are met.
• Actively contribute to scientific teams by presenting data at team meetings and identifying opportunities for innovation.
• Maintain training and compliance in health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities.
• Proactively seek opportunities to improve services through discussions with team leaders and customers, or by sharing best practices with other groups.
• Operate in accordance with approved quality standards.
• Work independently and flexibly, setting realistic schedules aligned with team priorities.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.

• Knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLP) and laboratory safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
• Academic background in Biology and/or Chemistry, with solid grounding in Mathematics and English..
• 1–2 years of laboratory experience in an industrial or pharmaceutical setting, following defined protocols and SOPs.
• Knowledge of GCP, GCLP, and GMP principles in pharmaceutical environments.
