Job Description
Job Summary
Perform laboratory analyses on samples of water, wastewater, groundwater, sludge, and biosolids for compliance with applicable regulations, bylaws, guidelines or operating criteria as required. Maintain detailed records related to reagent preparation, calibration standards, temperatures etc., to support requirements for laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements. Participate in the development and regular review of Standard Operating Procedures and methods. Participate in specification and evaluation of equipment to be used in this area of work. Maintain proficiency on selected tests in accordance with laboratory accreditation requirements. Perform QA/QC duties associated with an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environmental laboratory and contribute to equipment troubleshooting, recording of trends, nonconformances, corrective actions and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
Education
Completion of a 3-year college or university program in chemistry, chemical technology or applicable science.
Knowledge / Experience
Minimum of 2 to 3 years of direct, hands-on experience, using similar laboratory equipment and performing laboratory analysis in a similar environmental laboratory or accredited laboratory environment.
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and other software packages is preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of instrument operation with minimal troubleshooting, Good Lab Practices (GLP), Quality Assurance/Quality Control in an analytical lab and WHMIS.
Advanced knowledge, experience and skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook) and the various office equipment is required.
Must have or be eligible to obtain a certification, such as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Certified Technician (C.Tech), Chartered Chemist, or similar professional certification.

Detail oriented with excellent record keeping, data entry and time management skills.
Must be capable of performing the physical requirements of the job.
Must be able to work with tight deadlines and manage a high-volume of tasks and duties in an efficient manner.
Must take own initiative to coordinate work schedule and set priorities to meet required testing timelines.
