Fonterra Oceania is our newly formed entity that merges the Fonterra Brands New Zealand (FBNZ) and Fonterra Australia operations, aimed at enhancing our competitive position in the trans-Tasman dairy market. The integration of Fonterra Brands New Zealand (FBNZ) and Fonterra Australia builds on similarities to outperform the competition, create scale and synergies, and will strengthen our competitive edge. This role will join a team that helps to build an even stronger trans-Tasman dairy business with reach across Oceania and beyond.

We have three FBNZ operated sites in Takanini, Eltham and Palmerston North, and two central distribution centres in Auckland and Christchurch, with the largest chilled foods network across New Zealand. Our Takanini Site has three manufacturing plants - Beverages, Food and UHT, produces around 240,00 MT of product and has an annual Opex spend of approximately 100 Million.

About the opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga

As a Laboratory Technician at our Takaanini site, you’ll be a key member of our Quality Control Laboratory team. This is a varied role with hands on microbiological, chemical, functional and sensory laboratory work at its core.

You will look at how our milk products perform and conduct microbiological, chemical, functional testing to ensure our products measure up to our consumer’s standards and flavour profiles as well as support our lab operations.

Responsibilities include:

Preparing and setting up samples for microbiological examination

Ensuring accurate recording and documentation of test results

Preparing samples for testing and performing other non-testing support activities

Compositional testing

Sensory evaluation

Media preparation

This is a 6-month fixed-term opportunity. The hours of work will be 4:24pm – 3:00am, on a rotating roster ensuring you will work 8 shifts a fortnight, with 40 hours a week. You may also be required to work weekends due to the nature of the rotating roster.

With a passion for quality in everything you do, you will provide an exceptional level of service to our customers and to your co-workers. Your exceptional problem-solving skills and communication skills will enable you to build strong relationships across a broad range teams.

To be successful in this role you will need:

A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable (Science or Food Technology)

Laboratory experience (preferably within the food industry)

A high level of attention to detail and be a fast learner

High level of computer literacy and experience in administration/data entry (competent in excel)

Able to work both independently and collaboratively when required.
