GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

These positions are in the Hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, approximately 223 kilometres north of Fort McMurray. All candidates will be considered; however local applicants will be given preference.

These are Summer Student positions working eighty (80) hours bi-weekly, within the Rural Operations (Fort Chipewyan) Branch of the Indigenous & Rural Relations Division. These positions are within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit.

Under close supervision, the Summer Student Labourer, Fort Chipewyan will perform manual labour duties involved in the maintenance of a variety of municipal buildings and grounds in the Fort Chipewyan region. Tasks include, but are not limited to, cleaning and maintaining all assigned areas and facilities, operating a variety of small equipment and hand/power tools of a limited-skill nature, and performing other general labourer duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to understand instructions and safety procedures.

Ability to demonstrate dependability and reliability.

Ability to work collaboratively and productively with co-workers and actively contribute to team activities.

Must be able to listen attentively and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time and in all weather conditions.

A positive attitude towards work and safety.

Ability to speak Cree or Dene is an asset.

General math, numeracy, and reading skills.

EDUCATION:

Preference will be given to students who are graduating from high school this year (June 2025), or those who graduated and obtained their high school diploma within the last 2 years and are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution for the Fall 2025 semester.

Candidates who are successful during the interview process will be required to provide the following documents:

Proof of full-time enrollment in a post-secondary program for the Fall 2025 semester.

Confirmation from your current school that you are on track to obtain your high school diploma at the end of the current school year (June 2025). For those that have already graduated, a copy of your high school diploma will be required.

These documents are not required at the time of application, however preparing and collecting these documents in advance will expedite the recruitment process for successful candidates.
