The Labourer (Seasonal), reporting to the Public Works and Construction Supervisor, plays a crucial role in the construction maintenance crew, ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of equipment, adherence to safety and operational protocols, and providing support across various divisions within the M.D. of Taber. This role demands a blend of practical skills, adherence to safety, and effective communication to ensure timely and efficient Public Works services to the citizens.

Daily Work Activities Include:

​Coordinating with the direct supervisor regarding operations within the divisions.

Performing pre/post-trip inspections of equipment and reporting defects.

Adhering to M.D. policies regarding equipment operations and operator responsibilities.

Performing general service work on municipal equipment and operating construction equipment.

Relaying instructions and directions related to work assignments.

Checking and maintaining all road signs and ensuring adherence to all safety regulations.

Performing preventative maintenance of equipment and assisting mechanics with inspections and repairs.

Operating snowplows/sander and keeping records pertaining to the job.

Attending meetings and participating in safety meetings.

Assisting in short and long-term planning and improvements in municipal infrastructure.

Working with and assisting employees in the Public Works Department.

Participating in training sessions and performing other municipal duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge Required:

High school graduation or GED (willingness to upgrade if necessary).

Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, safety regulations, and basic technological functions.

Experience and Technical Skills Required:

Valid Class 5 driver's license (willingness to upgrade).

Experience in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment.

Computer literacy and ability to communicate through basic technological functions.

Abilities and Competencies Required:

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Organizational skills and the capability to maintain steady and productive work output.

Ability to work overtime as required and maintain confidentiality.

Accountable to the Public Works and Infrastructure Manager.

Ensuring productivity, accuracy, quality, and timeliness in work output.

Safeguarding and responsible care of equipment.

Ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of Public Works services to the citizens.
