Salary: $6,460 – 6,730 – 7,011 – 7,31+ – 7,62+/month (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

This position works in the Plan Checking organizational unit. This is specialized technical work performed in office and field with responsibility for reviewing proposed landscape plans and specifications submitted for Rezoning and Preliminary Plan Approval; inspecting landscape installations to ensure conformance to approved plans, processing and resolving complaints pertaining to landscape matters, and advising Planning Division of any issues. The work also involves specialized technical work such as: reviewing proposed plans; reviewing tree cutting permit applications; reviewing tree retention plans; establishing requirements for replacement tree planting and the value of security bonding for replacement trees; conducting site inspections, and enforcing the provisions of the Burnaby Tree By-law. The incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment and action within established policies and procedures. Policy matters and the more contentious problems are discussed with a superior who reviews work performance in terms of technical adequacy, conformance to established policies and procedures and attainment of desired results. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include University graduation in Landscape Architecture plus related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of current landscape architectural design and arboriculture principles, methods and practices. Ability to perform a variety of inspectional and investigational duties related to the work; to enforce tree bylaw and decide between recommending legal action or taking remedial action. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification are required.
