Law Clerk Opportunity – Litigation and Dispute Resolution
For Driven and Capable Law Students
Cooper Grace Ward is seeking an exceptional law student to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution (LDR) group.
This is not a typical clerkship. We’re seeking someone with genuine intellectual firepower—someone who thrives on complexity, demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, and is passionate about building a career in high-level commercial litigation.
Why CGW?
We are a unique firm in the Queensland market: a premium independent, not part of a global or national chain, but operating at the highest level.
Our partners are recognised leaders in their fields, and our LDR team is consistently ranked among the top litigation practices in Australia by Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Best Lawyers, Doyles Guide and Lexology.
You will work alongside some of the best litigators in Brisbane, including Rocco Russo, who has been consistently ranked amongst the best for over a decade.
At CGW, you will do real legal work for real clients, including some of Australia’s largest organisations in the public and private sphere; as well as private individuals.
You will be mentored by outstanding lawyers who are invested in your development. Our culture is known for its excellence, respect and curiosity, and we are proud to be a recognised Employer of Choice (HRD Australia & Australasian Lawyer, 2025).
The Opportunity
You will join our central research bench, collaborating with other exceptional law students and supporting teams across the firm—including property, planning & environment, family, commercial & corporate, litigation & dispute resolution, and insurance. You will undertake complex legal research and analysis, assist with challenging and interesting matters, and develop practical skills that will set you apart.
As you refine your technical abilities, you will transition into our LDR team, gaining hands-on experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. We will support you throughout your studies, offering flexibility and mentoring to help you excel academically while building a strong foundation for your legal career.
Who We’re Looking For
Outstanding intellectual ability, evidenced by strong university results
A genuine interest in a long-term career in litigation and dispute resolution
Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
High-quality research skills and excellent written communication
The ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team
Availability to work a minimum of two days per week
A projected graduation date in late 2027 or mid to late 2028
Additional qualifications in business or accounting are an advantage
What We Offer
A unique opportunity to work at the premium end of the market, without the constraints of a global or national firm
Mentoring and training from some of Queensland’s leading litigators
A supportive, high-performance culture
Competitive remuneration and outstanding employee benefits
