In this role, you'll:


Be part of Transport for NSW’s Legal & Governance branch (which reports to the Transport Secretary), working collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical legal advice and support for sensitive and complex legal matters to support the operations of Transport for NSW and other agencies in the transport portfolio.


This Lawyer position is an integral part of the specialist Projects, Development and Planning team within Transport for NSW's Legal & Governance branch and has responsibility for supporting development and delivery teams on construction and infrastructure projects.


You will be a trusted legal advisor responsible for providing solutions focussed independent advice on construction and projects matters to support the achievement of organisational outcomes, minimise legal risk and deliver on our commitment to our customers, the people of NSW.


With close to 100 lawyers spread across 5 legal teams, we are one of the largest inhouse government legal departments in NSW.


This 16 month temporary position is hybrid-friendly, meaning you can mix in-person days at your team’s home base location of Elizabeth Street, Sydney with remote days.


We are happy to consider suitable applicants based either in Sydney, Newcastle or Wollongong subject to being able to regularly attend the Sydney office in person.

About you


You are a Construction or Infrastructure Projects Lawyer with either front or back-end experience and a minimum of 1-3 years post admission experience.

You have advanced written and verbal communication skills, and are able to convey technical legal concepts clearly and succinctly.

You will have knowledge and experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of construction and infrastructure related contracts, including construct only, design and construct, managing contractor, consultancy appointments and associated documents and agreements. If predominantly experience in back end, you will have experience conducting complex, high value, complex disputes.
You will be able to communicate and influence effectively and inspire confidence in clients as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues.

You will model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct.

You will hold tertiary qualifications in law and hold a practising certificate in NSW.

Experience working in the government sector is not essential.
