Job Description
As a Lead Artist, you will work closely with the Art Director and Art Leads to build and scale high-volume, ongoing 3D pipelines. You will help establish and maintain standards of consistency, quality, style, and functionality for all 3D art. While there will be plenty of opportunities to create the artwork yourself, this is primarily a leadership role. You will need to expertly manage people, processes, schedules, budgets, and vendor relationships. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and benefits. The role can be fully remote
• Manage production of all 3D art including character, prop/weapon, environment, and vehicles.
• Create and/or clean up art assets as needed.
• Establish standards and practices, optimizing art assets for games in Unreal and Unity.
• Build and maintain relationships with external art partners, managing quality, schedules, deliverables, budgets, and daily communications.
• Lead a team of internal artists, including hiring, training, and performance review.
• Develop and maintain documentation, as needed.
• Work closely with Art Director, Art Leads, and Producers to review daily art updates, providing timely feedback and oversight to all 3D teams.
• Work closely with Art, Design, and Engineering teams to maintain the balance of visual quality, gameplay needs, and technical performance.
• Minimum 5 years of professional game development experience in a 3D art role.
• Portfolio of high-quality, game-relevant work.
• Previous leadership and/or outsource management experience.
• Experience with Unreal Engine 4 and Unity for mobile game development.
• Mastery of art and 3D fundamentals including modeling, sculpting, UVs, texturing, materials, anatomy, proportion, topology, LODs, and animation.
• Expert level proficiency with standard 3D tools including Maya, Zbrush, Substance, Photoshop, and/or others as needed.
• Solid understanding of the tools, terminology, and methodologies used in game development.
• Excellent collaborator and problem-solver who can take feedback, work within a fast-paced team, and consistently meet deadlines.
• Motivated self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized and able to adhere to protocols, naming conventions, and file structures.
• Good communication skills.
