The Responsibilities Of a Spark Lead Include
A Spark Lead is a senior software developer who specializes in leading and managing the development of applications using Apache Spark, a popular big data processing framework.
• Leading a team of Spark Developers to design, develop, test, and deploy distributed Spark applications on large-scale data processing platforms.
• Providing technical leadership and guidance to the team on best practices for developing high-performance Spark code using Scala, Python, or Java, and optimizing code for performance and scalability.
• Designing and implementing complex Spark components such as Spark Core, Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, Spark MLlib, and Spark GraphX to build end-to-end data processing pipelines.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to understand business requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
• Ensuring the team follows coding standards, best practices, and software development processes, and continuously improving the team's productivity and quality of work.
• Troubleshooting and debugging complex Spark applications, identifying and resolving issues related to performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Developing and maintaining documentation, including design specifications, coding standards, and user guides.
• Keeping up to date with the latest developments in big data technologies and applying them to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Spark applications.
• To be successful as a Spark Lead, candidates should have a strong understanding of distributed computing, big data processing, and data engineering concepts. They should also possess excellent programming skills in Scala, Python, or Java, and have experience leading and managing a team of developers. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with big data processing technologies such as Hadoop, Kafka, and NoSQL databases. They should also be able to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, have excellent communication skills, and be able to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Desired Candidate Profile
• Education: A Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: 8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years of experience in developing big data processing applications using Apache Spark. Experience in leading and managing a team of developers is also preferred.
• Technical Skills: Excellent programming skills in Scala, Python, or Java, and hands-on experience with big data processing technologies such as Hadoop, Kafka, and NoSQL databases. Strong understanding of distributed computing, big data processing, and data engineering concepts, and experience in designing and implementing complex Spark components such as Spark Core, Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, Spark MLlib, and Spark GraphX.
• Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and manage a team of developers, provide technical guidance, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
