Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Lead Driver to serve as the Assistant Business Contact Manager (Assistant BC). This role involves operating various types of commercial vehicles, coordinating transportation logistics, and supporting the overall transportation operations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive FedEx package delivery experience, understands FedEx systems and processes, excellent communication skills, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of safety protocols. This position offers an opportunity to lead driver activities while acting as a key liaison between the business and transportation teams.
The Assistant BC is the BC’s operational extension. This role focuses on people management, daily execution, documentation, and continuity. The Assistant BC does not set policy—they enforce it. When the BC is unavailable, the Assistant BC maintains operational stability within established authority.
Important Note: FedEx experience is a must have requirement. We are not considering any candidates without it.
Duties
1. Daily Operations Support
Assist with: Dispatch readiness, Route coverage, Call-out management
Coordinate rescues and route adjustments as directed
Ensure drivers are staged, briefed, and dispatched on time
2. Driver Supervision & Accountability
Serve as day-to-day supervisor for drivers
Conduct: Coaching conversations, Performance follow-ups, Attendance tracking
Document: Call-outs, Tardiness, Behavioral issues
Escalate repeat or serious issues to BC with documentation
3. Safety & Compliance Enforcement
Reinforce FedEx safety standards: Seatbelts, Speed, Stops, Backing
Monitor: RYDE trends, VEDR alerts, GroundCloud compliance
Conduct safety reminders and retraining under BC direction
Immediately report violations or incidents
4. Training & Development
Support onboarding of new hires
Assist with: Ride-alongs, Probationary evaluations, Mentor Lead Drivers and MITs
Help develop future supervisors
5. Administrative & Communication Duties
Distribute BC-approved communications
Maintain accurate documentation for: Attendance, Coaching, Incidents
Support payroll accuracy through FedEx login adherence
Ideal Candidate
Proven FedEx Ground experience
Strong communicator
Organized and detail-driven
Comfortable enforcing rules consistently
Aspires to BC-level leadership
Experience
Proven experience in commercial driving, including shuttle driving, delivery driving, bus driving, or tractor-trailer operation.
Familiarity with operating various commercial vehicles such as box trucks, flatbeds, tow trucks, limousines, school buses, and heavy equipment like forklifts or dump trucks.
Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
Experience with FedEx warehouse operations and systems including load & unload procedures using pallet jacks or forklift equipment.
Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
Prior experience in route driving or heavy haul logistics is preferred.
Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type being operated; certifications for specific vehicle types (e.g., CDL for tractor-trailers) are a plus. This role is essential in ensuring smooth transportation operations while maintaining high safety standards and excellent customer service. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities and technical expertise in various commercial vehicle operations.
