Engineer (Methods & Tools)
About the team:
Methods and Tools (M&T) is a transverse team working with different core engineering verticals in
Airbus. The USP of this team is working in multi-functional environment providing digital solutions to
engineering problems.
The USP of the team is people with Core Engineering domain knowledge complemented by software
development skills. The team plays an enabler role in various digitization initiatives across Airbus utilizing
latest technologies and the domain knowledge they have.
Some examples of the digital solutions for various Core Engineering departments such as Data driven
designs of wiring, automated routing electrical harnesses, Data Analytics based product aimed at
reducing physical tests of material specimens. It also involve developing web-based solutions to
encapsulate and automate different workflows such flight test planning etc. In addition to these points,
developing tools for Electrical Wiring Harness and Hydraulic Circuit design process improvements. Some
of the tools developed; are used in the areas of Aircraft Safety analysis and Engineering Business Data
monitoring etc.
M&T is also deeply involved in Agile Scrum and SAFe in developing state of the art digital products for
the areas mentioned above.
Job Description
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and ART coach who facilitates ART events and
processes, and supports teams in delivering value. They communicate with stakeholders, escalate
impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement. Although Agile Release Trains (ARTs)
are composed of self-organizing and self-managing teams, these trains cannot drive or steer themselves.
That is the responsibility of the RTE, who facilitates most effectively as a servant leader. They have a solid
grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices and understand the unique opportunities and challenges
of aligning and facilitating an ART (team-of-Agile Teams).
Responsibilities
Coordinates and facilitates ART ceremonies including Program Increment (PI) Planning, ART Sync
(or PO Sync, Coach Sync), System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt.
Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the ART.
Coaches leaders, Stakeholders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and cultivate
an agile mindset.
Assists the product management in getting ready for PI by helping them with feature estimation
and the aggregation of estimates for larger pieces of work like capabilities and epics by planning
and ensuring the vision, roadmap, and program backlogs are ready.
Establishes and communicates the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments.
Promotes DevOps principles inside the organization to aid in the design and continuous
enhancement of a continuous delivery pipeline.
Implements metrics to ensure ART progress transparency and enable ART performance tracking
Works with the Program Management Office on program execution and operational excellence.
Manages risks and dependencies, resolves impediments for the release train.
Encourages people to use Agile and SAFe® best practices and methods.
Thinks beyond day-to-day activities, stimulates innovation and apply systems thinking.
Inspires teams to learn from each other and share best-practices.
