Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Learning Guide to support children in a self-directed, non-traditional learning environment. This role is ideal for an educator who believes in facilitation over instruction and enjoys guiding curiosity-driven learning rather than following a preset curriculum.
You will play a central role in shaping the daily learning experience, fostering a positive community culture, and collaborating with families to support each child’s growth.
Responsibilities
Facilitate self-directed learning through observation, mentorship, and thoughtful questioning
Create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment
Support children’s interests through projects, activities, and experiential learning
Collaborate with families to understand children’s needs and share insights
Curate learning materials, projects, and occasional field trips
Observe and document children’s engagement and development
Model positive communication, problem-solving, and community values
Qualifications
Required:
Experience working with children in non-traditional or alternative education settings
Strong alignment with child-led learning philosophies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to adapt to the needs of diverse learners
Comfort facilitating learning rather than delivering formal instruction
Preferred:
Background in education, child development, or related field
Experience with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Agile Learning, microschools, or homeschooling
Experience with project-based or experiential learning
Conversational Russian a plus
