The Team
Reporting to the Manager / Lead - Performance Marketing, your primary focus will be on crafting compelling content to appeal to a developer audience across channels, with a deep focus on understanding user intent, product features and the general market. The role also requires working with multiple other teams such as Product Marketing, Design and Engineering to drive results.
The Role
A Technical Writer at BrowserStack:
• Builds high-quality, rich technical content in easy-to-understand plain, clear, and simple language
• Creates templates for other writers to leverage
• Contributes to setting process and building the style guide
• Independently owns the documentation roadmap for BrowserStack products
• Works with Product Managers, the Design team, and Engineering to build the documentation roadmap for their product
• Develops a solid understanding of the product to try, code, test, and also simulate user's behaviour with the content
• Sets up IDEs and debugs a few lines of code
• Translates code snippets in one programming language to other programming languages
• Acts as a mentor to new colleagues and helps onboard them with self-sufficient onboarding documentation
• Helps create e-learning content. They work with SMEs to come up with educational content, assignments, assessments, exercises, and MCQs
• Understands the LMS workflow to upload, modify, and ensure the quality of course content
Requirements:
Technical Skills:
• A solid understanding of computer science fundamentals
• 7- 12 years of experience in building technical developer documentation, API documents, or creating educational content in technology companies
• Sound knowledge of version control tools like Git, software development lifecycle, DevOps tools like Jenkins and test practices (does not have to be in a professional context)
• Comfortable with IDEs (VSCode), APIs, and programming language (any) to understand the concepts and convert to user-understandable formats
• Can read and understand code in any one language. Should be able to use tools like Google to translate code into other languages
• Has working experience of Markdown
Soft Skills:
• Be a team player - work with our world-class engineers and designers to come up with creative and elegant solutions to complex problems.
• Ability to own the documentation for multiple products. Work with Product Managers to identify the need for documentation, engineers to gather inputs, and finally see the new content creation to Production.
• Great communication and collaboration skills
• Should be able to mentor junior writers and help eliminate roadblocks
