Role
Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Responsibilities
This position requires working collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum, House Leaders and the Student Services Leader in the College providing a vision for the sub-school, creating high quality teaching practice, consistent policy and procedure implementation, and leading a teaching group to deliver a rigorous program that challenges the high ability students and supports tier two and three students.
This position leads program delivery of Years 10, 11 and 12.
Leads the senior school team consisting of the assistant senior school leader, VET leader and senior school administration staff.
Work in conjunction with House Leaders manage students at risk of unsatisfactory completion of their chosen pathway.
Manage senior school student events (i.e. Assemblies, Valedictory Dinners, Social)
Leading the implementation and review of Victorian Senior Secondary certificate at Mooroolbark College including VCE, VCE VM and VET pathways
Work within a team environment to further the curriculum development of VCE, VCE VM and Year 10.
Review of policies, procedures and handbooks to align with the VSSC.
Communicate and report to the school community regarding the implementation of the VSSC.
Attend briefings and professional learning regarding the VSSC.
Provide professional learning to all staff (and specially House and Pathways staff) to ensure accurate and current knowledge of the VSSC to fulfil their positions.
Provide professional learning through Professional Learning Communities and Professional Learning Workshops.
Ensure the Student/Staff VSSC Handbooks are distributed and updated annually.
Explore all options associated with the VSSC implementation for Mooroolbark College students to support student achievement and engagement.
Working with the Director of Curriculum, audit and review guaranteed and viable curriculum for senior school to reflect College priorities.
Working with the Leading Teacher ¿ Student Programs to plan and implement both the Year 11 and Year 12 Orientation Programs for students.
Organise, plan and facilitate Senior School Teacher meetings.
Lead in conjunction with House Leaders the embedding of School Wide Positive Behaviour procedures and returns uphold the College Values at Senior School ¿ i.e. wearing the correct uniform, behaviour in the study centre.
Contribute to whole school events/processes and the Senior School Pathways Selection Process and the timetabling team.
Manage the Year 12 Study Centre.
Implement Year 12 (VCE and VCE VM) data analysis and goals setting with staff supported by the Director of Curriculum.
Ensure VASS is appropriately entered for students in conjunction with the Senior School Administration Assistant
Convene the Senior School Panel where a breach of rules has occurred (VCE or VCAL) or where significant request for special provision is received (i.e. reduction is load).
Oversee the planning and actioning significant senior school events, i.e. Valedictory Dinner, Year 12 End of Year events, Senior School Induction/Camp, Guest Speakers.
Represent the College at Regional (NEVR) and DET events/forums.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements.
