Help build B.C.’s new medical school from the ground up!

At Simon Fraser University's School of Medicine, we envision a medical education system where students and residents learn as part of a team in primary care and other community-level settings, in patient-centred environments, and with a curriculum that considers social, environmental and prevention contexts. As we establish the school in Surrey, B.C., our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners will help us to meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve and improve access to primary care throughout the province. We seek to advance reconciliation by embedding and equalizing Indigenous knowledge systems in our learning, research and practices while resting on a solid foundation of high-quality, accredited education and world-class research efforts that keep us oriented towards measurable socially accountable outcomes.

The Learner Affairs Services & Events Coordinator plays a key role in shaping an engaging, inclusive, and learner-centred experience across the School of Medicine. This position leads the planning and delivery of co-curricular programs and events that foster wellbeing, community-building, and professional development, while also overseeing the Learner Portal Resources Hub to ensure timely, accessible, and user-friendly information. Working within the Learning & Wellbeing Hub, the Coordinator supports service navigation, collaborates with internal partners and leaders, and contributes to a cohesive and responsive learner support ecosystem.

This role will be instrumental in building new personal and professional development programming and engagement initiatives as the School of Medicine grows, including mentorship programs, leadership development opportunities, and multi-modal events. It also supports continuous improvement through evaluation and innovative approaches to enhancing learner development, engagement, and access to services.

About the Role

The Learner Affairs Services & Events Coordinator supports learner engagement, programming, and communications initiatives that promote wellbeing, community-building, and co-curricular development across the learner continuum. The role coordinates the planning, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of Learner Affairs programs and events, including mentorship programs, career panels, wellbeing workshops, and student leadership activities, ensuring high-quality, inclusive UGME and PGME learner experiences and advising learner organizations on inclusive policy-aligned event delivery and logistics. Serving as the primary functional lead for the Learner Portal’s Resources Hub for the Learner Affairs teams, the Coordinator oversees content strategy, day-to-day administration, user experience improvements, and governance of learner-facing resources to ensure information is accurate, current, accessible and well-managed.

We are seeking a collaborative, proactive, and highly organized professional who thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate brings strong event coordination and learner development and engagement experience, along with a commitment to inclusive, culturally safe practices. They are a thoughtful communicator and problem-solver who can manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality, learner-centred services across a dynamic team of support services. Comfortable taking initiative while working as part of a supportive, collegial team. They contribute positively to a workplace culture that values collaboration, flexibility, coordination, and communication while maintaining professionalism and accountability.
