Job description
Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK with over 25,000 students from 109 countries. An innovative, learner centric university with a modern and fresh outlook, ENU is ambitious, inclusive in its ethos and applied in its approach.
Ranked the #1 UK Modern University for Engineering and Computer Science (GUG 2025), we lead innovation in a rapidly changing world through future-ready education across disciplines like cyber security, AI, renewable energy, computer/data science, engineering, building and surveying.
Currently, we are accepting applications for the temporary post of Lecturer in Applied Informatics to cover a period of maternity and provide essential teaching support for our UX/design course offerings.
The Role:
As Lecturer in Applied Informatics, you will be in an excellent position to use your blend of core UX skills (research, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, usability testing) and teaching and research experience, to provide teaching support for the delivery of modules covering UX Technoculture and Society.
Your expertise in the use of tools such as Figma, Sketch and Adobe XD will serve you well as you also assist students in navigating these packages to help facilitate their understanding of UI and UX design.
The post will provide you with the opportunity to use your excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills to engage and inspire our students, while monitoring their performance and working with our Academic Skills colleagues and other University services to support their progress.
You will also be given the remit to undertake the assessment of these students, using assessment instruments provided, and under the guidance of experienced staff, working collegiately to help deliver an excellent learning and teaching experience for all involved.
There will also be the opportunity to conduct research in a relevant area related to UX design and to work with other academics doing research in this area.
Further to this, you will be mentored and guided by Edinburgh Napier staff in the delivery of modules, using pre-existing course delivery plans and materials. This will give you the opportunity to work closely with module and programme teams and team leaders, allowing you to work to high standards and potentially make suggestions based on your own skills and experience to enhance the curriculum.
This position may be particularly suitable for you if you are an early career or established academic, looking for flexible lecturing opportunities.
