Base Salary Level B $127 ,436 p.a. - $151,328 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Discipline of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney is advertising a continuing teaching and research position, to be appointed at the level of Lecturer (Level B). Applicants with expertise in Indigenous Australian politics will be highly regarded, but this is not a requirement.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is driven by academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and social inclusion. The position is based in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Sydney , one of the most highly regarded School for social sciences in Australia. It focuses on five research themes: health, markets, governance, inequality, and environment. The School is proudly home to one of the most successful academic groups in the world for research and teaching in the social sciences, and their work interprets and makes sense of societies, nation states, and people.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the Discipline of Government and International Relations , which hosts a comprehensive range of teaching and research areas of political studies, including but not limited to: political science and political theory, Australian politics, comparative politics and area studies, environmental politics, media politics, public policy and public administration, and international relations and international security. Your key responsibilities will be to:

teach into units within the Bachelor of Arts (Politics Major). Teaching may also include postgraduate units.

undertake units within the university’s exciting new Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BPPE) program, which is taught across three Disciplines and three Schools, and may include teaching at the postgraduate level

conduct research in area of study, primarily Australian politics. Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas considered would be highly desirable:

political theory

environmental politics

comparative politics

engage in advanced pedagogical practice, design and evaluation, and contribute to educational and other leadership and governance priorities in SSPS.

About you

We are seeking a Lecturer in Australian Politics (Education Focused) who has:

a PhD in Australian politics or a cognate field

demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level

demonstrated leadership in educational innovation, curriculum design and review, relative to opportunity

the ability to teach core and selective units of study in the Politics undergraduate major within the Bachelor of Arts, as well as units in the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BPPE) program

a high-quality research agenda in Australian politics and/or pedagogical practice, design and evaluation (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning).
