The School of Natural Sciences is looking for a Lecturer in Forestry Sciences to join their team.

The Lecturer in Forestry Sciences will coordinate the Graduate Certificate in Forestry course (which is a four-unit program) and will be the unit coordinator of the associated units of Introduction to Forestry and Forest Operations.

The Graduate Certificate in Forestry has been developed to equip current industry professionals with the essential capabilities required to meet contemporary challenges. It fosters a new generation of forestry practitioners and leaders by offering a pathway for upskilling the workforce and preparing graduates for diverse roles in forest management.

The course is delivered through a collaboration between leading Australian universities in forestry research and education: the University of Tasmania, the Australian National University, University of Adelaide (formally from University of South Australia), the University of Melbourne, and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

As course and unit coordinator, you will work with colleagues in other universities to set academic vision, lead a dispersed teaching team, oversee quality assurance, and drive continuous improvement through data-informed pedagogy.

You will also manage curriculum mapping, assessment moderation, and student retention initiatives, liaising with digital-learning specialists and external partners.

You will participate in co-teaching and relevant internal and external committees. Success will lift course and unit coherence, student satisfaction, and graduate impact, advancing the University’s mission to generate place-based sustainability knowledge for Tasmania and amplify it globally.

What you’ll do:

Take leadership in coordinating the Graduate Certificate in Forestry course and the two of the four units: Introduction to Forestry and Forest Operations.
Ensure implementation of a course-wide quality framework (curriculum map, assessment blueprint, moderation schedule) to ensure AQF compliance and pedagogical alignment.
Co-teach into online zoom sessions and residential schools where required and contribute to team‑based scholarship of teaching, sharing analytics, and workshops.
Chair the course advisory committee; set agendas, and document actions and represent the University on relevant committees, workshops and development sessions related to national forestry teaching where appropriate.
What we’re looking for:

A postgraduate tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or equivalent qualifications and/or professional experience.
Demonstrated expertise in teaching, curriculum design, and quality assurance to meet standards and compliance in courses and units.
Leadership experience in distributed teams, including leading meetings, committees and workshops to deliver agreed activities.
Experience in improving unit and course content to create contemporary learning and teaching experiences.
Capability with use of learning and teaching platforms, analytics and data-driven student-success interventions.
Experience in building and maintaining external stakeholder relationships for effective partnerships.
