Lecturer (School of Population Health)
• Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
• Duration: 5 Year Fixed Term contract
• Remuneration: $127,947 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
• Location: Hybrid, Kensington, Sydney

School of Population Health

The School of Population Health (SPH) UNSW is internationally recognised as a leader in public health with research strengths across a range of health disciplines, including infectious diseases and immunisation. SPH has a core focus to investigate and provide new knowledge to help inform policy, governance, organisation, work, and leadership in the health sector through cross disciplinary research with both academia and industry. The School works with communities to improve health in Australia, our region and globally, with a focus on equity, diversity and social justice. SPH also has strong associations with research centres and institutes throughout UNSW Medicine & Health.

Details of the role

A Lecturer (Level B) is expected to carry out activities to develop their scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally and to contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School of Public Health and Faculty.

The role of Lecturer in Population Health dynamics will contribute to quantitative teaching in the school, particularly in the areas of predictive modelling and infectious diseases within postgraduate teaching, with extensions to life-long learning. The lecturer is expected to conduct independent and collaborative research in population health modelling, ideally with a focus on infectious diseases and vaccines. Through the Infectious Diseases Dynamics and Interventions group (co-led by Professor James Wood & Scientia Lecturer Alexandra Hogan) the school has a significant NHMRC-funded research program in this area, supported by wider expertise in quantitative and infectious diseases research across SPH.The Lecturer reports to the Head of School Professor James Wood and has no direct reports.

Some Key Skills Required
• A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a highly quantitative discipline, featuring advanced skills in mathematics and statistics.
• Proven ability to develop and apply skills in scientific computational modelling studies.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
• Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
• Demonstrated interest/experience in observational population science and population health.
• High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
