About the Area

UOW is a leading Australian university recognised for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. Committed to delivering an internationally oriented and world-class learning experience, UOW prepares its diverse student body to thrive in both further study and the evolving workplace. With a strong research profile and a decade of outstanding performance, the University continues to drive innovation and impact.

This role sits within the School of Social Sciences, part of the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. The School is an inclusive, interdisciplinary hub of nationally and internationally recognised scholars committed to transforming society through research, education and community collaboration. It encompasses a broad range of disciplines including Criminology, Public Health, Social Work, and Geography and Sustainability, and houses three key research centres. The School works closely with communities, policy-makers and industry to address issues of health, social disadvantage and injustice, and empowers students and staff to make meaningful contributions to a fairer, healthier society.

About the Position

This Lecturer position focuses on teaching, research, and community engagement within the Social Work discipline in the School of Social Sciences. You will play a key role in delivering and coordinating social work subjects that are deeply grounded in professional practice and closely connected to the local community, particularly across the Illawarra, South Western Sydney, and Shoalhaven regions. The role requires a scholarly and evidence-based approach to teaching, with an emphasis on innovative, inclusive, and flexible delivery methods, including simulation and practice-based learning.

In addition to teaching, you will contribute to the development of high-quality research and curriculum that aligns with professional accreditation standards. You will collaborate with academic colleagues, community organisations, and industry partners to support impactful research and foster effective learning experiences. This role is ideal for someone passionate about advancing the social work profession and committed to creating strong partnerships across the university and broader community.

About You

We are seeking a passionate and experienced social work academic who brings a strong foundation in professional practice, education, and research. You will have eligibility for AASW membership and at least five years of post-qualifying social work experience, along with a PhD (or significant progress towards one), or equivalent professional expertise. With demonstrated experience in innovative teaching methods, including the use of simulation and online delivery, you will contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality, practice-based curricula that meet accreditation standards and prepare students for real-world social work settings.

The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating subjects or courses, engaging with students, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders across the social work, human services, and academic sectors. You will be actively involved in collaborative research, with a track record of publications and research supervision, and a commitment to advancing social work education through scholarly and evidence-informed approaches. Strong professional networks and a sound understanding of social work practice methods will enable you to contribute meaningfully to community engagement, governance, and the ongoing growth of the program.

How to Apply

You will be prompted to respond to a selection criteria questionnaire as part of the application process. Please also attach your CV to your application.
