The University of Otago Department of Nursing | Te Tari Tapuhi is ranked in the top 100 nursing schools globally (2022 QS rating). Based in Christchurch, it leads postgraduate nursing education and research in the South Island.
The department excels in advanced nursing programmes, including the Nurse Practitioner pathway, and the graduate entry pre-registration Master of Nursing Science programme. The department has strong links with all of the South Island District Health Boards, Primary Health Organisations, and other clinical providers.
The role | Te mahi
This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the department’s excellence in teaching, supervision and provision of an enriching student experience.
You will participate in curriculum development, reviewing and convening of papers and provide clinical supervision. This position will initiate and contribute to research and participate in the development of evidence-based clinical education and practice in nursing.

The successful candidates must have the following skills and experience:
Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate or be eligible for registration in New Zealand. If eligible for registration the appointee must gain registration prior to the commencement of the position.
Teaching and supervision experience.
Master's degree minimum.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, a commitment to nursing education and be an active researcher.
Clinical nursing experience particularly in the area of acute care, mental health, long term conditions or complex care.
Commitment to fostering partnership with Ngā iwi Maori.
Our ideal candidate will have a PhD, or currently be undertaking PhD study.

The Department of Nursing has a permanent, part-time (0.5 FTE) opportunity available from February/March 2026 based on our Christchurch campus.
The salary range for a Lecturer is $97,377 to $114,943 and Senior Lecturer is $120,494 to $137,444. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate level on either the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer scale, based on skills and experience (pro rata).
