Job Description
Lalande Personal Injury Law is a boutique firm in downtown Hamilton that specializes in four main areas of law - serious personal injury, wrongful death, long-term disability, and employment litigation.
We are looking for a legal assistant/law clerk to join our team, on contract, to cover a maternity leave from June 1, 2026 to July 1, 2026.
This is a hybrid position – with 4 days in the office and one day at home, if requested.
Your must haves:
You must be within a reasonable commutable distance to Hamilton - this is a hybrid position not a virtual position.
+2 years experience as a legal assistant in litigation. Plaintiff or insurance defence personal injury litigation is a bonus, as is disability law, or employment law.
Duties Expected:
answering calls.
assist with opening files.
requesting and reviewing productions.
coordinate documents for the discovery and the mediation process (you will not be assigned to trial process).
helping move files forward in an efficient and timely manner.
preparing legal documents and pleadings for filing and service.
manage undertakings and refusals.
general file handling and management (on tort files and some Accident Benefits files).
preparation of Affidavit of Documents, summaries of productions, and discovery briefs.
managing calendars (scheduling examinations for discoveries, mediations etc.).
maintaining contact with clients in a professional and understanding manner.
other general duties as required.
What we Expect:
you work well in a small business atmosphere.
familiarity with plaintiff or defence injury law
have good organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
be able to work with minimal supervision.
must demonstrate good grammatical skills in order to prepare legal correspondence and complete forms.
Have the ability to exercise patience, understanding, and good judgment when dealing with clients.
