The Buffalo office of Lippes Mathias, LLP is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team with focus in the Immigration Practice Group. The Immigration Practice Group at Lippes Mathias is a comprehensive and experienced legal team counseling on business and family-based immigration issues. The Practice Group handles nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications, as well as related processes including labor certification, adjustment of status and consular processing, among others.

The successful candidate will work with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal and administrative staff to service clients.

For the ideal candidate, there is an opportunity for growth and advancement into a paralegal position.

Responsibilities will include:

Prepare memoranda to open new matters

Input client information into immigration case management system

Draft engagement letters and invoices

Draft forms utilizing immigration software for petitions/applications to be filed with U.S. govt. agencies

Assemble, finalize, and file petitions/applications to be filed with U.S. govt. agencies

Retrieve and update non-immigrant and immigrant visa applications online

Maintain correspondence with clients, including updating them on filings, case status, appointments

Create, organize, and maintain electronic and physical files, including within document management system

Assist with calendaring critical dates in immigration case management system and tracking status expirations and renewals

Provide general administrative and clerical support

Administrative tasks for the firm

Perform general office duties as required

Our ideal Legal Assistant will have:

1-2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Administrative Assistant (Law firm experience preferred)

Typing speed of 60–90 WPM with high accuracy

Strong proofreading and document editing skills

High Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe PDF

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently

Positive, team-oriented attitude with a proactive mindset

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Associate degree required

Bachelor's degree in Business or English preferred

Salary range depending on experience: $20-$24/hr
