Legal Counsel – Commercial & Construction Focus
We are seeking a commercially astute Legal Counsel to join an entrepreneurial consortium group owned by a International Engineering firm. In this in-house role, you will provide legal and commercial support to a diverse portfolio of companies across industries including recruitment, finance, engineering, and retail.
This multifaceted position offers exposure to both commercial advisory and indemnity & liability contract matters, allowing you to work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute strategically across the group.
Key Responsibilities
???? Commercial Support Across the Group (50%)
Provide legal and commercial advice across multiple industries, including recruitment, finance, and retail.
Advise on corporate governance, business setup, commercial transactions, and shareholder agreements.
Offer board-level advisory support and assist in strategic decision-making.
???? Indemnity & Liability Contract Matters (50%)
Support a national company within the group involved in large-scale engineering and civil projects across Australia and internationally.
Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts related to indemnity, liability, and construction law.
Advise on security of payment and risk mitigation strategies.
Key Requirements
✔ 4-10 years of experience in Construction, Commercial Law, Indemnity, and Liability. Exposure to large-scale projects or entrepreneurial groups is a plus.
✔ Strong background in negotiating and drafting contracts and working with commercial teams.
✔ Ability to provide business-focused legal solutions and advise senior stakeholders.
✔ Experience advising on corporate governance, compliance, and commercial transactions.
✔ Strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills to manage competing priorities.
✔ Experience in board advisory is highly regarded.
