About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Legal Counsel to join our team. The role provides first-point-of-contact legal advice across Bank First and supports the delivery of a corporate legal program for the bank.
The Legal Counsel (holding an unrestricted practising certificate) is responsible for reviewing and drafting contracts and member documents, reviewing marketing documentation to ensure compliance with laws, providing legal advice and advising on regulatory obligations and required bank processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Senior Legal Counsel to:
Deliver a robust and relevant corporate legal program including providing legal advice to support the Bank;
Review Terms and Conditions, and Contracts and any supporting policies and procedures;
Review of marketing and advertisements, terms and condition documents and other promotional and disclosure documents as required.
Advise on and assist in the preparation of responses to regulators and bodies.
Provide timely advisory services to the business in relation to changes to new products, projects, and new / changed processes to ensure an appropriate focus on compliance obligations and managing legal risks is considered and implemented;
Provide coaching, support and awareness to the business in relation to its legal obligations, and management of legal risks.
About You
You are an Australian qualified lawyer with tertiary qualifications in law from an accredited law school, with a current and unrestricted practising certificate.
You have 2-4 years of corporate legal experience, with top or mid-tier law firm training or in-house, with some in-house legal experience required.
Experience in the financial services industry is desired, but not essential.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of drafting and reviewing contracts.
You are a problem solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You are able to build professional relationships with external stakeholders (ie. lawyers, regulators and industry bodies) and liaise across all levels of the organisation.
