Role Overview:

Medhavi Skills University (MSU) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented In-House Legal

Counsel to oversee and manage the university's legal affairs. The ideal candidate will provide critical support in drafting, reviewing, and managing agreements, offering legal insights, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role is based at the Chancellor's Office in Kolkata and will play a vital role in safeguarding the university's legal and business interests while fostering collaborative partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Agreement Drafting & Review:
• Draft, review, and finalize agreements with partners, industries, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure all agreements are legally sound, align with organizational policies, and protect the university's interests.
• Negotiate terms and conditions with external stakeholders as needed.

2. Legal Advice & Insights:
• Provide expert legal inputs and suggestions to support decision-making on strategic and operational matters.
• Analyse risks associated with agreements, partnerships, and other initiatives, and propose mitigation strategies.

3. Legal Affairs Management:
• Manage day-to-day legal affairs, including compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and university policies.
• Handle legal queries, disputes, and correspondence with relevant parties.
• Liaise with external legal consultants and advisors when required.

4. Report Preparation & Documentation:
• Prepare detailed reports on legal matters, agreements, compliance status, and other related aspects for leadership review.
• Maintain an organized repository of all legal documents, agreements, and correspondences.

5. Compliance & Governance:
• Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements affecting the university and its operations.
• Monitor changes in laws and regulations and provide updates to leadership on potential implications.

6. Other Legal Functions:
• Support the Chancellor's Office in handling confidential and sensitive legal matters.
• Provide training and awareness to internal teams on legal and compliance requirements.
• Perform additional legal and administrative functions as assigned.

Key Requirements:

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB). Master’s degree in Law (LLM) preferred.
• Enrollment as a member of the Bar Council of India.

Experience:
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in legal counsel roles, preferably in the education, corporate, or skill development sectors.
• Proven expertise in drafting and reviewing agreements, managing legal compliance, and handling regulatory matters.

Skills & Competencies:
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
• Proficient in legal research and familiar with contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance.
• High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
