A Unique Opportunity to Support Victims, Witnesses, and a Four-Legged Colleague! Make a difference in this essential position supporting the day to day management of the OPP’s victim and witness facilities and operations.
Legal Support Officer, Victims and Witnesses Assistance Service - Full time, fixed term contract until September 2026
As a Legal Support Officer in the VWAS team, you will be essential to the smooth day-to-day operation of our victim and witness facilities. You will provide empathetic administrative support and act as a key point of contact for vulnerable people.
A significant and rewarding part of your role will involve providing dedicated handling and care for the OPP court dog, supporting them as they provide comfort to victims and witnesses in the court environment.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Providing comprehensive administrative support to the VWAS team, including maintaining victim and witness waiting areas and operating Remote Witness Facilities.
Providing dedicated handling for our court dog, managing their schedule and supporting them during bookings.
Performing other administrative duties as required to support the team.
To succeed in this position, you will be a compassionate, organised, and resilient individual.
You will possess:
Essential experience as a dog handler, with a formal qualification or sound, demonstrated experience in caring for and training dogs.
Proven experience providing administrative support within a busy, complex, and highly confidential environment. Experience in a legal or government setting is highly desirable.
Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and liaise with members of the public who may be in distress.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
A flexible, proactive, and committed work ethic with a focus on providing a high standard of service.
Mandatory Requirements:
You must hold a current and valid Victorian Working with Children Check.
