Avant Law is recruiting for an experienced health lawyer to lead a team of high-performing and collaborative lawyers specialising in professional conduct matters (including Ahpra investigations, Medicare reviews, Coronial Investigations, HCC conciliations).

We are looking for a proven leader who will support the Head of Practice Caroline Tuohey in the delivery of high quality and timely legal services while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

The key responsibilities include:
Lead the team to and personally provide expert legal advice and prepare and manage legal files relating to claims and/or complaint files and other matters.
Represent members in courts and/or tribunals and/or inquiries.
Provide a professional, thorough and effective legal service to achieve the best outcome for Avant’s members.
Provide oral and written legal advice to members and Avant Claims Managers and other internal clients concerning legal claims and/or complaints and also general medico-legal advice.
Personally conduct claims and/or complaints of greater complexity, higher value and/or more significant consequences than claims and/or complaints handled by Solicitors.

To be successful in this role you will have:
Experience in leadership or strong interest in the development of people leadership skills. 
Defence medical negligence and insurance law experience ideal. 
Demonstrated health law knowledge. 
Proactive in developing relationships and understanding and balancing member, business and team requirements. 
Excellent communication skills.
Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
