Job Description
As the Information Assistant, you will:
Assist customers in-person, over the telephone, and on-line with their information, readers advisory, and room booking needs.
Instruct customers in the use of the Library’s ILS system, online databases, and Internet resources.
Assist customers with specialized resources and tools, such as eBooks, the Library Online Computer Booking system, and Audiovisual resources as required.
Assist with Public Computer training sessions and provide computer assistance as required.
Prepare for and host adult, young adult and children’s programs, including equipment set-up as required.
Provide programs for pre-schoolers and school age children.
Assist in the creation of posters, booklists, reading guides and other marketing tools as assigned.
Provide tours and orientation sessions as required.
Assist in the maintenance and development of the collection.
Take charge of the library or section in the absence of the Branch or Section Head or designate.
Assist in promoting library materials and services.
Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required.
Your education and qualifications include:
Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Ability in Reference/Reader’s Advisory work an asset.
Ability to provide assistance to both children and adults.
Ability to deal effectively with the public and staff members.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must possess a good general knowledge of literature and a variety of subject areas, as well as of current affairs and trends.
Ability to operate A.V. equipment an asset.

Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position (i.e. Must be able to lift boxes and equipment weighing 20-25 pounds, and set up tables, chairs, banners, etc.)

Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
