The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as, a vast number of ambulatory clinics. The program utilizes a collaborative care model (COACT) including team nursing for patient care and Connect Care for the patient's electronic medical record. The program has a team of CNEs and CNS to support new hire orientation, training in specialized areas and ongoing professional development and initiatives. We strive to utilize evidence-based practice and quality improvement principles to improve patient and family experiences and outcomes. Unit 5F3 is a fast-paced, 21-bed inpatient unit dedicated to caring for older adults with diverse medical needs. Our patients include individuals with delirium, dementia, falls, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Additionally, we provide compassionate end-of-life care for those in need of palliative support. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced unit. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs. and have the endurance to. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Proficient written and verbal communication skills required. Strong critical thinking skills and experience with team nursing.
