The Town of Canmore is currently accepting applications and looking to fill this full-time permanent position as a Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about aquatics and wanting to make a positive impact in our community!

Position Overview: The Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor position is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with lots of energy, enthusiasm for aquatics, and a positive teamwork attitude. In this role, you will get the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, as you will take the lead to help ensure our guests have both fun and safe experiences. You will meet many diverse and fascinating people in our facility. This includes, being part of and working with a large aquatics team, interacting with local community members, and even interacting with many visitor guests, who come from many different parts of the world. You will be responsible for lifeguarding during

our busy public swims, teaching aquatics programs, and performing daily pool checks and maintenance.

Core Accountabilities:

Teach swim individually or in groups the basic stances, movements, techniques, rules, regulations and safety precautions in a sport

demonstrate correct swim techniques, procedures, use of equipment and exercises to enhance participants' abilities

assess participants' levels of ability and create appropriate lesson plans for student/ group

ensure the safety of participants at all times by demonstrate and teach appropriate personal safety skills

build confidence in participants and evaluate participant progress and assign grades where appropriate

Education & Qualifications:

National Lifeguard Service award and Standard First Aid certification

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifesaving Society Instructor certification

Fitness or other specialty certification, i.e. Kayak, Swim Coach, or Synchronized Swim Coach is considered an asset

Lifesaving First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor and Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer certifications an asset

Pool Operator Level I certification an asset

Experience:

Previous experience in Aquatics Industry – an asset

A positive attitude with the ability to anticipate needs - required

The ability to communicate effectively and positively with patrons, co-workers and supervisors - required

Salary & Benefits:

Pay Range- $26.23 - $2+.32per hour. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education

This is a part-time permanent position

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time 24-hour a week position with open availability. Successful applicants will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
