Job Description
The U.S. Coast & Marine Conservation Authority is seeking a dedicated Lighthouse Keeper to manage operations at a historic lighthouse located on a remote coastal island in the United States. This is a rare and highly independent position ideal for someone who enjoys solitude, nature, and hands-on work.
Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor lighthouse lighting and foghorn systems.
Perform daily maintenance and inspections of the light tower, generator, solar systems, and auxiliary structures.
Keep weather and maritime activity logs.
Ensure safety and emergency protocols are followed.
Maintain communication with the coast guard and mainland base.
Qualifications:
U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
High school diploma or GED; technical or maritime background preferred.
Physically fit; able to climb stairs and work in varying weather conditions.
Experience with tools and basic electrical/mechanical systems a plus.
Comfortable with remote and solitary living.
Location: Remote lighthouse station (exact location disclosed during interview)
Schedule: 2-week rotations or seasonal assignments (flexible)
Salary: $40,000 – $60,000/year (housing & supplies included)
