Job Description
Overview: This position requires strong administrative and organizational skills. The successful candidate must be able to work well under pressure, multitask, prioritize work, and take direction. A team-oriented approach and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are also essential.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
• Assisting lawyers with file management and file tasks;
• Drafting pleadings and correspondence;
• Maintaining client contact lists;
• Communicating with lawyers, clients and fellow firm staff;
• Liaising with Court clerks regarding Court filings;
• Organizing records for various litigation purposes;
• Diarizing and maintaining a bring-forward system for court dates, questioning and file tasks;
• Email management and filing;
• Opening and closing client files and preparation of engagement letters;
• Assisting lawyers in managing schedules;
• Preparing client accounts on a monthly billing cycle, including follow-up with clients regarding accounts receivable.
Skills and Experience Required:
• A minimum of 5 years experience in a litigation practice within a law firm;
• Strong client-facing and communication skills;
• Excellent organization and strong prioritization skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge of litigation practices and procedures;
• Familiarity with Commercial List matters is an asset;
• Excellent proofreading skills (ability to check typed material for grammatical, typographical, spelling, word usage and format errors);
• Experience with litigation production software is an asset;
• High proficiency with Outlook, Adobe, Excel and Word;
• Familiarity with MS Teams;
• Experience dealing with the Personal Property Registry, Land Titles Registrar and Alberta Corporate Registry is an asset.
