Department: Warehouse Operations
Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor
Position Overview
The Lumper is responsible for efficiently loading and unloading trucks, handling materials, and ensuring that products are properly moved in and out of the warehouse. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in a cold storage environment. The Lumper will play a critical role in ensuring that shipments are accurately processed and that the warehouse remains organized.
Key Responsibilities
• Loading & Unloading: Unload inbound shipments from trucks and containers, and load outbound trucks, ensuring all materials are properly handled to avoid damage.
• Product Handling: Sort, stack, and organize products in the warehouse or storage areas. Ensure that all items are correctly labeled, tagged, and accounted for in the warehouse management system (WMS).
• Palletizing: Build and wrap pallets according to warehouse standards, ensuring stability and correct stacking procedures.
• Inspection: Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and report any discrepancies or damages to the supervisor.
• Warehouse Organization: Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the loading docks and warehouse areas. Make sure materials are placed in their designated locations.
• Collaborate with Forklift Operators: Work closely with forklift operators to ensure efficient movement of materials within the warehouse. Communicate clearly to avoid accidents or misplacement of goods.
• Adherence to Safety: Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly in cold storage environments.
• Teamwork: Collaborate with warehouse staff and supervisors to meet daily operational goals. Assist with other tasks as needed, including basic housekeeping and maintenance.
• Time Management: Ensure timely completion of loading and unloading tasks to avoid delays in warehouse operations.
Qualifications
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
• Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics role is preferred, especially in loading and unloading trucks.
• Skills:
• Physical stamina and strength to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
• Basic math and reading skills for counting inventory and following instructions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Work Environment:
• Ability to work in cold storage conditions with temperatures ranging from -20°F to 40°F.
• Must be able to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs consistently.
• Ability to work in a cold storage environment with varying temperature zones.
• Standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift is required.
