Position Summary:
To ensure the instrumentation and controls systems' smooth running in the company's manufacturing plants, the organization calls upon the expertise of a Maintenance Engineer. They provide crucial technical support for such systems and troubleshoot problems when they arise. The role also involves instituting preemptive measures to enhance maintenance and improve current processes. Additionally, the Controls Engineer keeps a watchful eye on contractors brought on board and monitors performance when they install new instrumentation or controls systems.
Depending on the organization and the specific role, the position responsibilities may require the individual to work independently or as part of a larger team:
• Utilize experience and appropriate tooling methods to detect and troubleshoot instrumentation and control issues in industrial equipment and processes
• Utilize measuring equipment, including voltmeters, to assess the function of machinery and equipment and pinpoint any irregularities or malfunctions
• The ability to read and translate information found in blueprints and one-line diagrams is a vital skill for electricians. It ensures that electrical equipment is well installed, reduces safety hazards, and improves the overall efficiency of the system
• Professionals who work with process instruments, including temperature, pressure, flow, level, and chemical composition measuring devices, as well as process controls, must have a comprehensive understanding of calibration procedures
• Facilitate the upkeep, troubleshooting, and updating of HMI applications through the use of software platform solutions including FTView ME/SE, iFix, WonderWare, Ignition, etc.
• Technicians trained in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of VFDs and servo drives are highly valued skilled laborers in the industrial sector
• Employ multi-functional diagnostic equipment, including meters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers, to perform a variety of tests and evaluations aimed at detecting and resolving complex technical issues
• Provide ongoing support and refresher training opportunities to ensure employees continue to feel comfortable and confident using equipment in their daily tasks
• Ensure that all maintenance and repair procedures are thoroughly documented, track the deployed resources, and request the acquisition of new parts and materials through established channels
• Effective communication is a key factor in troubleshooting and repairing plant equipment, and it is important to ensure that all team members are adequately informed and updated throughout the process
• Apply cGMP standards to all aspects of your production process, including incoming raw materials, equipment maintenance, and product testing
• The construction, conception, manufacturing, recording, and aiding of the hardware, software, and systems applied for directing and managing all aspects of manufacturing operations
• In conclusion, by embracing TPM as a business strategy, companies can drive continuous improvement, reduce costs, and enhance productivity to stay ahead of the competition in today's rapidly changing manufacturing landscape
• Successful implementation of changes requires strong leadership that establishes clear expectations, provides support and resources, and actively communicates the benefits of the changes to all stakeholders in the organization
• Make it a priority to communicate any potential challenges that could reduce the operability of the plant's processes and equipment to management
• To avoid incidents in operations support and work execution, prioritize the safety needs. This includes ensuring safety measures are in place for Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety, confined space entry, LOTO, hazardous materials, and the correct use of hand tools.
