This is an exciting time to help lead our analysis of the international macroeconomy
You would help lead a team of analysts responsible for the analysis of international economic developments and commodity markets, which feeds into the material presented to the Reserve Bank Board and to the public
Work in a collaborative and dynamic environment that allows flexible working arrangements and opportunities to grow
About the team

As part of the leadership team of the Asian and International Macroeconomics Section in the Reserve Bank’s Economic Analysis Department, you will help oversee the analysis and research of international economic developments. We are looking to fill two senior economist (manager) positions in the team, one focused on deepening the Bank’s understanding of the Chinese economy and the other leading on cross-cutting international developments.
Each role would lead a team of around five analysts to achieve the team’s goals and support individuals in their development. Reporting to the Senior Manager of the section, you will distil a wide set of information into a concise narrative that sets the international macroeconomic context for the Board’s monetary policy decisions. Both roles engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of the section’s work agenda to the broader strategic objectives of the policy groups of the Bank, and to communicate your team’s insights.
About the roles
Create a team culture aligned to RBA values, enabling an environment for high levels of employee engagement and achievement.
Effectively plan, implement and monitor progress of the team’s analytical agenda and regular policy outputs in line with priorities of the Department.
Provide economic and/or technical advice that supports the monetary policy decisions of the Board and contributes to the Bank and Economic Group meeting its strategic goals.
Actively contribute to the transformation program of the department, as part of the Bank-wide response to the RBA Review
Communicate effectively to relevant internal and external decision-makers, stakeholders and other audiences in support of the Bank’s functions and objectives.
About you
Strong people leadership and influencing skills, and the ability to nurture an inclusive culture and team-based approach to work.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
Strong macroeconomic frameworks and modelling experience in economic analysis and research or in a closely related field, preferably with an international perspective and/or China-specific expertise.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to judge what issues are most important and to reprioritise quickly as circumstances change, and a passion to own the delivery of the team’s regular outputs and analytical agenda.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills together with an ability to work collaboratively with other sections in the Bank.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to identify the key issues that need to be conveyed to external audience.
Next steps
To apply for this role, candidates should submit their resume and provide written responses to the following three short answer questions (maximum response is 200 words per question) in-lieu of a cover letter:
1.What is an example of a inclusion, diversity and belonging initiative that you have contributed to?
2. In what ways might the approach to analysing China’s economy differ to the approach used for other economies?
3. What is one global macroeconomic risk that you think the Bank should be paying more attention to and why?
Be More

Working for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility. Your individual growth and success drives the RBA forward as an organisation. Be more means you can do more, for yourself and for Australia.
