Through consultation with the Educational Administrators of the School of Health Sciences (SoHS), the Manager, Clinical Placements is primarily responsible for leading all aspects of clinical placement management for clinical students and faculty.

NATURE & SCOPE:

The College of New Caledonia is a publicly funded post-secondary school.

The Manager, Clinical Placements (MCP) reports to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and has associated responsibilities in managing partnerships between the college’s health programs across the CNC region and clinical facilities for the purpose of securing quality clinical education experiences for all health sciences students. The MCP collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, Program Coordinators, and Faculty to create a master clinical calendar; confirm the health and safety compliance requirements for clinical placements, coordinate orientation to clinical facilities; and provides support for clinical placement concerns including HSPnet coordination. Additional responsibilities include assessment and analysis of clinical education experiences at the completion of each clinical placement, participation in clinical placement activities required for program approval and accreditation, and operational management of clinical placements for the specific programs within the School.

The School includes the following health sciences programs: Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Care Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology Science, Medical Radiography Technology, Practical Nursing, and years one and two of the Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate Nursing Program, partnered with UNBC. The School has a budget of approximately $5 million with one Dean, two Associate Deans, approximately 80 full-time and 40 part-time faculty employees and operational staff.

The MCP will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.

The MCP will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.

Specific Duties

The Manager, Clinical Placements provides day to day support for clinical educational experiences in Health Sciences program areas, consistent with the School of Health Sciences plans and the overall mission and goals of the College. The Manager, Clinical Placements:

provides leadership by promoting a climate supportive of and encouraging a spirit of enquiry, and is a resource with respect to services, programs and clinical education experiences including, but not limited to, quality, content, selections, development, review, articulation with other agencies.

advises educational administrators on clinical curriculum and services.

provides information, where possible, for advisement on clinical matters and services.

coordinates and facilitates requests for clinical placements in all regions.

coordinates orientation to new clinical facilities in collaboration with the Clinical Mentor Instructor.

ensures that all correspondence with clinical agencies is completed for each clinical education experience including, but not limited to letters of attestation and confirmation of placements.

confirms currency of clinical placement requirements for all students and faculty, including, but not limited to, the following: HSPnet consent forms, N+5 mask fit testing, immunizations and TB test results, CPR certification, SPECO documentation, agency orientations, and on-line clinical orientations.

seeks new placements & opportunities (suitable for achievement of course objectives), as needed.

administers clinical schedules and workloads once assigned by educational administrator.

coordinates HSPnet duties including but not limited to placements approvals/denials.

troubleshoots placement issues and re-schedule placements when necessary.

ensures that all required documentation is uploaded to HSPnet.

manages clinical education records as needed and appropriate.

assists with advisory committees, articulation committees, accrediting agencies, internal discipline articulation, Educational Council submission related to clinical education experiences.

supervises laboratory technician duties.

maintains confidentiality of records.

provides information for bargaining committee decisions.

ensures clinical management processes adhere to the College’s policies and procedures.

assist in promoting Health Science programs, participating in reviewing and updating program information (print and web), participating in program information sessions, and representing the School of Health Sciences at career and recruitment activities.

performs other duties as required.

Skills & Qualifications

The Manager, Clinical Placements must have a combination of professional qualifications, professional experiences and contributions, leadership practice, teaching experience, community awareness and personal attributes that inspires confidence and motivates others.

The qualified candidate will have:

a designation and membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association which is part of the School’s teaching programs which are: Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Care Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology Science, Medical Radiography Technology, Practical Nursing, and years one and two of the Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate Nursing Program, partnered with UNBC preferred;

a Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline of study relevant to the professional practice; candidates enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program may be considered;

a BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) or similar courses. Candidates enrolled in the PIDP will be considered;

a minimum of three years of recent teaching experience in a post-secondary institution;

a minimum of three years of recent clinical practice in one of the designations in the School of Health Sciences preferred;

equivalent combination of education and experiences will be considered;

computer literacy including use of electronic learning platforms;

knowledge of the HSPnet system used for clinical placements is preferred;

a class 5 driver’s license;

ability to travel within the CNC region throughout the academic year;

a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy of adult learning models and of the roles of community colleges;

a proven ability to apply leadership approaches within an inclusive, indigenized, and internationalized community college context;

excellent oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;

a demonstrated ability to collaborate and cooperate with others; and

a demonstrated ability to use evidence-based decision making and excellent judgement when balancing competing demands.
