About the Council:

About the Role:
Reporting to the Group Manager Corporate Services, the Manager Finance leads the Council’s finance function, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, reporting, treasury, and insurance. This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for key outputs, including the Annual Plan, Annual Report, and Long Term Plan.
The team is currently undergoing a rebuild, making this an exciting opportunity for a people-focused leader to foster a collaborative, high-performing culture. You’ll be instrumental in mentoring staff and creating a positive team environment that supports both individual growth and organisational success.
The Ideal Candidate:
You’ll bring strong leadership and staff management experience, ideally within local government, and a deep understanding of financial processes and statutory obligations. You’ll be confident presenting financial reports in public forums, including Council and Risk & Audit Committee meetings, and able to navigate political sensitivities with professionalism and resilience.
Your ability to build trust, motivate others, and lead through change will be key to your success. You’ll be a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for developing people.
Skills, Experience & Attributes:
First and foremost, you will need to have previous experience as a Finance Manager and have led a team of finance professionals. In addition, you will have:
A tertiary qualification in accounting
Proven experience in financial and project management
Expert knowledge of Council planning processes, including the Annual Plan and Long Term Plan
A strong understanding of local government financial frameworks
Well-developed problem-solving skills
Exceptional interpersonal and mentoring skills
Confidence and experience in presenting financial information to diverse audiences
Resilience and composure under pressure
