About the Role

The Manager, Human Resources is responsible for providing practical, professional human resources (HR) leadership across the organisation, with a focus on managing employee relations matters and core HR operations. The role ensures HR issues are addressed in a timely, fair and consistent manner, supporting organisational effectiveness and stability.

Working autonomously, the role supports managers and staff across the employee lifecycle, strengthens HR compliance and governance, and contributes to a positive, safe and values-aligned workplace culture within a small, mission-driven organisation.

Position Details

This is a part-time (2 days a week), fixed term contract position. A hybrid workplace model, we're looking for someone based in Sydney who can work remotely as well as in our office (located in the Sydney CBD).

Key Responsibilities

Manager Duties:

Provide operational leadership and day-to-day management of HR responsibilities, ensuring priorities, workplans and outputs align with organisational objectives.
Translate organisational and executive priorities into clear, achievable operational plans, overseeing delivery to agreed standards and timelines.
Apply sound judgement to manage competing priorities, emerging risks and sensitive matters within scope of responsibility.
Oversee planning, coordination and reporting of HR activities, identifying issues and implementing practical solutions.
Drive continuous improvement by reviewing processes, systems and practices to strengthen efficiency, consistency and governance.
Work collaboratively with senior leaders and wider team to support integrated delivery of HR initiatives across the organisation.
HR Case Management and Employee Relations:

Lead and manage complex HR and employee relations matters, including performance management, grievances, misconduct matters and workplace investigations.
Act as the primary escalation point for HR issues.
Provide clear, practical HR advice to managers and staff on performance, conduct, wellbeing and workplace expectations.
Ensure HR matters are managed fairly, consistently and confidentially, with appropriate documentation and record-keeping.
HR Operations, Policies and People Support:

Manage core HR operations, including recruitment coordination, onboarding and offboarding, contracts, variations and maintenance of employee records.
Review, develop and implement HR policies, procedures and guidance to ensure consistency, clarity and legislative compliance.
Support performance and development processes, including probation reviews and annual performance cycles.
Provide trusted people support that promotes a safe, respectful and values-aligned workplace culture.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems, supporting effective reporting and governance.
Contribute to workforce planning, role documentation and employment processes in collaboration with senior leaders.
Skills and Experience

Relevant qualifications or professional experience in human resources, people and culture, employment relations or a related field.
Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, HR best practice and employee relations principles.
Demonstrated experience working with HR or employment management systems, such as Employment Hero.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise and engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
Well-developed organisational, time-management and project management skills.
Ability to work independently on sensitive and complex matters, exercising sound judgement, discretion and professionalism.
Strong alignment with ICMEC Australia’s mission and values to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
