About the role
As the Manager of Legal Partnerships, you will take on a vital role in shaping and leading the collaboration between Transurban and its third-party legal partners, driving collections through strategic legal processes. With a deep understanding of operational excellence and a keen eye for opportunity, you will guide a nationally distributed team to achieve outstanding results in debt recovery. Your focus will be on optimising both operational and financial performance, ensuring that the Customer Solutions team consistently meets or exceeds ambitious targets while delivering cost-effective outcomes.
In this dynamic role, you will exercise commercially focused judgment, analysing and selecting the most suitable cases for legal collections based on strategic, behavioural, and financial criteria. You will manage relationships with law firms, debt collection agencies (DCAs), and government partners, overseeing the progression of cases through all stages of legal activity.
Your leadership will be key in preparing for court proceedings and ensuring that all legal obligations are met while minimising risks.
Collaboration will be at the heart of your work, as you partner with the CS& team, the broader business, and external legal experts to design and maintain efficient processes that drive debt recovery and reduce non-arranged travel and debt levels. Your ability to influence stakeholders and inspire your team will be crucial in delivering enhanced operational performance, productivity, and service excellence. Day-to-day, you will:
Lead recovery efforts and support enforcement activities to enhance the effectiveness of the legal collections strategy.
Identify and pursue opportunities for value optimization within the legal collections framework
Ensure the Group’s objectives are met when negotiating, advising on, drafting, and reviewing commercial agreements and while overseeing the development of contracts
Customer impacts are accounted for and adequate notice and supporting strong record of managing third party partners to achieve desired outcomes
Strong commercial judgement and ability to manage competing factors and opportunities to drive outcomes in a timely manner.
Ability to develop insight and analysis and strategies from a variety of sources and information, including underlying legal requirements
Ability to take a proactive approach to managing risks associated with legal processes e.g. anticipate issues, propose solutions early, participate in regular business team meetings
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to successfully engage, negotiate and deal tactfully and effectively with people in challenging circumstances
This role requires someone who possesses:
Strong understanding of the operation of the legal system gained from a relevant role within the legal sector or similar
Strong record of managing third party partners to achieve desired outcomes
Strong commercial judgement and ability to manage competing factors and opportunities to drive outcomes
Ability to develop insight and analysis and strategies from a variety of sources and information, including underlying legal requirements
Ability to take a proactive approach to managing risks associated with legal processes e.g. anticipate issues, propose solutions early, participate in regular business team meetings
Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels both within the organisation and externally
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to successfully engage, negotiate and deal tactfully and effectively with people in challenging circumstances
Strong organisational and time management skills including an ability to be deadline driven
