Job Role - Manager – Sr. Manager (Legal)
Objective :
To provide legal assistance in all branch banking matters, retail liability matters both from the product side as well as retail liability related litigation and dispute resolution.
Responsibilities
Legal support for:
• Branch banking and operations;
• Retail products liability side;
• Retail litigation liability side;
• Para-banking activities of the bank.
Coordinating with various external counsels for western and southern region of India and other regions (as applicable). Defending the bank, its directors, officers and employees for complaints, suits, criminal actions filed against them and/or the bank at various legal forums. Training and development of departments members, customers of the legal department as well as oneself. Preparation and maintenance of litigation updates and regular reporting internally with respect to litigation matters.
Essential competencies
Good understanding and experience of branch banking business. Ability to coordinate with various officials, internal business departments, branch staff, external lawyers. Good interpersonal relationship skills. Good networking skills, contacts and experience with external lawyers, police and other authorities. Good organizational skills and vision to improve existing set up in consultation with other members of the legal team. Up to date knowledge of legal environment with a focus on banking laws and practices, court procedures, procedural laws, relevant RBI notifications etc.
Qualifications and relevant experience
Valid law degree in India with at least 4-5 years of post- qualification experience. Candidate possessing 4-5 years’ post qualification experience in branch banking (liabilities) with a bank will be preferred. Should have managed litigation matters relating to various forums such as consumer courts, civil courts, high courts, criminal courts etc. and have a reasonable knowledge and understanding of court procedures and procedural laws and regulations. Fluency in Hindi and Marathi would be a bonus but is not a pre-requisite
